General / Passenger Information

The city is strung out in a narrow valley below Mount Avila, which separates it from the coast, in a set of neighborhoods that are mostly only a few square blocks. The upscale hotels and better restaurants are in the eastern part of the city in Las Mercedes, Chacao, Chuao, Altamira, Los Palos Grandes, Bellas Artes, and La Castellana.

Caracas, "the City of Red Roofs" and Venezuela's capital, is tucked away some 3,000 feet above sea level in a narrow valley below Mount Avila. A bustling metropolis of about three million people, Caracas is one of the more cosmopolitan, modern, and distinctive cities in Latin America, with a vibrant business, social, and cultural scene. Architecturally, concrete and plate glass reign supreme, which is evident in the bold forms and sleek lines of Art Deco and post-modern design. Visit Angel Falls, Los Roques and Margarita Island; shop for gold, crystal, and much more.
